Princess is now back in school...4K. She's such a big girl! We're actually adjusting a bit better than I expected. She's in school ever day for a couple of hours and the consistency has been good for us. I would much rather have her at home with Mouse and me, but I know she likes playing with her friends.
Off topic a bit. I'm totally amused at the definition of a friend at age 4. We bumped into one of Princess's "friends" at the zoo the other day. She whispered to me "hey, that's one of my friends from school." When I asked what her name was, she told me "I don't know." That seems to be the case with most of her friends from school. It's only been a couple of weeks, so I'm sure she'll learn their names soon enough!
So, this week Princess was Student of the Week. This means she got to wear a special necklace, sit in a special chair, make an "about me" poster, etc. The best part of student of the week is that a family member gets to come in on Friday and read their favorite story!
Today, Mouse and I went to school early to read Princess's story. She decided on a My Little Pony story because it's a new book and her favorite (we got it at Sam's Club - just ask her, she'll tell you). We were a few minutes early so we got to see the kids play a bit and there were a lot of "Princess, your mom's here" and "I kno-ow." We (and by that I mean I) went over her poster. Here's a picture of her mom, dad, sister and dog. Here's her self-portrait, her height and weight, her likes and dislikes. She also had to put 3 wishes on the poster:
1. I wish that I was a ballerina.
2. I wish that I was a rock star.
3. I wish that stars came true.
By that last one, I think she meant wishes that you make on a star. It was so cute having her fill out the poster on her own. I asked the questions, she answered, and I spelled the words for her to write by herself. I think she really enjoyed it too! She also had to put what she wanted to be when she grows up. A rock star!
Following our little show-and-tell, the kids were able to ask Princess some questions. They started off like this: "My baby sitter is scared of spiders." (We put spiders as one of Princess's dislikes). "My baby sitter is allergic to dogs (one of her likes) and apples." Then on to something like this:
Girl 1 - "Princess, do you want to come to my house and play sometime?"
Girl 2 - "Princess, maybe sometime I'll send you a card in the mail."
Girl 1 - "I'll send you a card in the mail too sometime."
Girl 3 - "For your birthday, I'll send you a birthday card."
Girl 2 - "On your birthday, maybe I can get you a present."
Girl 4 - "On your birthday, I'll send you a birthday cake!"
Girl 1 - "I'll send you a card and a birthday cake too."
At this point, the teacher decided that it was probably time to move on to the story. A couple of the girls gave Princess a hug and Girl 1 told her "I love you" and then it was story time! I read the Pony Fashion Show story with very few interruptions (surprising, since Princess asks about a million questions when I read to her - who's that?, what are they doing?, etc, etc.) After I finished the story, the kids thanked us and then we moved on to a game. Princess got to pick a game to play - she chose a new one, so they played a numbers game that consisted of passing a marker and counting to her favorite number. The person who got the number had to sit down until there was only one standing. After this, Princess got to pick a song. She chose dance party, so we all danced to the music. Then we went on a bear hunt and there was a bit more free play. And that was only 45 minutes of their day! I told the hubby that I would love to go to preschool every day if I just got to play with the kids like that! I had so much fun!! And the kids were so polite and absolutely hilarious!
